“Sometimes you gotta say ‘What the Fuck’, make your move.”

More often than not, there comes a point in any project where it makes more sense to just start over. I’ve reached that point with my version of U.S. Highway 6 in Iowa City.

As I’ve previously mentioned, U.S. Highway 6 is the largest, and therefore most visible road on The Hills Line. Making the transition from a three-dimensional modeled road on the layout to a two-dimensional is always difficult. The larger the road, the more difficult the transition is.

After fiddling with the transition for the better part of a year, I finally gave up, reprinted the scene, and attached it to the backdrop. PanPastels were used to attempt to lighten the photo and darken the road so that the two somewhat matched.

It’s not going to win scene of the year, but the transition is considerably less abrupt the second time around.

Put a couple vehicles between the track and backdrop and that will help even more.
