Car Loading Circuit

In the back of my mind, I knew that when I offered a set of car-loading displays to my friend and fellow Iowa Interstate modeler Joe Atkinson for use on his 4th Sub layout, I was opening a can of worms.

True to form, Joe (and I) have been besieged with “where did you get that” and “can you make one for me” requests. I was happy to ignore any such comments, but Joe is a far kinder person than I am.

Since I don’t want him to continue to have to deflect those questions every time someone operates on his amazing railroad, I’ve decided to make the code, parts list, and installation instructions available to the public.

As demonstrated in the above video, the Arduino-based circuit offers the ability to simulate the loading of a single car at an industry. When you press the button, it displays a loading progress bar on the screen for a set amount of time. It also provides audio feedback when loading starts, completes, or is canceled.

But, as is stated multiple times in the manual and the code itself, this project is offered AS IS with absolutely no support, warranty, or guarantee. You assume ALL responsibility and liability for the construction, installation, operation, and use of this device.

You also waive me, McNab Media, and all associated parties from any liability for ANY damages, injuries, property damage, or losses arising from the use of this device or documentation.

Forgive the dramatics, but it’s a result of the world we live in.

If you’re interested in building your own, the repository is available on GitHub. If you have any questions… ask someone else.

With that said, if you do implement this on your layout, I’d love to see how you did it.

Enjoy!
